Welcome back to the Eclectix Blog! Today's article is about this month's featured artist. This month's featured artist is Megan Zogg who is not only an amazing artist but is also the head of our Marketing Committee and the owner of Ceramicz and More in Coffeyville Kansas. Please enjoy her interview.
What is your favorite piece of yours and why?
I love my clay castle that I hand built. It has a whimsical and happily-ever-after feel to it! Also, I have never put 20 hours into a piece of art!
How did you get started in Ceramics?
I had never tried to do anything artistic before my art appreciation class at ICC. Professor Janelle Null taught that class and before her, I never know that I had any talent at all. With her help and the additional instruction from Professor Michael DeRosa at CCC, I have found that I have quite a bit of potential!
What most inspires your art?
There is no real way to answer that question. It depends on my mood and surroundings. I find a lot of inspiration in nature but I am inspired by people as well.
How do you decide what you're going to make? There are times that I will see something that makes a light bulb go off above my head, but usually I just start and see where it takes me!
Who is your favorite artist and why?
That would, without a doubt, be Edouard Manet. He was a brilliant artist but due to the French Salon in the 1800’s, he was rejected time and time again but that didn’t stop him from doing his art. He had total faith in himself and kept on doing his art until he was noticed!
What is your favorite part about being a member of Eclectix Art Gallery? When I found out how this would work, my first honest thought was…there is no way this can work! So many different people and different points of view. But it works! We are one big family. And family is so important. I feel privileged to be a part of this wonderful group of talented people!
Why do you think it's important for Eclectix to be a part of Independence?
Usually you would have to travel to bigger cities to go to art galleries but how nice is it to have one in a small community? I think that it brings out the talent and shares it with, not just the residents in this small community but to the world!
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren't making art? I am a wife and the mother of six children so needless to say, I enjoy spending my extra time with my family running our ceramic shop, CeramicZ n More, in Coffeyville.
What other media do you enjoy besides clay? I love working with oil and acrylic paint as well. I am always up for any kind of art but clay and paint can occupy me for hours!
Megan will also be holding a grand opening of her Ceramicz and More store at their new location 619 S. Walnut St, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337 on Saturday October 14th 10am-5pm so be sure to stop by the shop and paint some ceramics!
